Cyprus car insurance for imports
Insuring your carzuto import
A complimentary service exclusively for Carzuto clients. At your request, we can facilitate insurance coverage required for immediate registration while your vehicle is still in transit.
Carzuto is not an insurance broker or agent. This page is for informational purposes only.
Types of insurance
Third Party Insurance
The legal minimum required by the Cyprus Department of Transport to issue your license plates. It covers damage or injury to others, but leaves your imported vehicle entirely unprotected against local risks.
Comprehensive Insurance
Recommended for carzuto imports. Beyond standard collision, theft, and fire cover, the underwriters accurately assess your vehicle's specific imported trim and factory options, preventing you from overpaying premiums based on inaccurate local market tables.
What affects your insurance cost
- Risk Profile (age, experience, etc.)
- Engine Capacity & Power Output
- Market vs. Agreed Value
- NCD (Verified No Claims Discount)
- "Any Driver" clauses and additional named drivers
Excess (deductible): what you pay in a claim
With comprehensive insurance, if an accident is your fault, you pay an excess — typically 1–3% of the vehicle's value. For higher-risk profiles (young or inexperienced drivers) the amount may be higher. This is not regulated by law and varies between underwriters.
The local & global market
While Cyprus has over 20 local agencies, we facilitate introductions to specialist underwriters — including international syndicates such as Lloyd's and Allianz — capable of insuring high-value imports correctly.
What you need to get insured
Vehicle Registration Document
Passport, ID, or Cyprus ARC
Valid driving licence
We coordinate the submission of these documents while your vehicle is in transit, ensuring zero delays at registration.
Protocol for an incident in Cyprus
Secure the scene
Stop safely. Call your insurer's 24/7 accident care line immediately. Do not move the vehicles from the point of impact until instructed.
Call the authorities
Call the police (112) immediately if there are injuries, public property damage, or if the other party is uncooperative.
Exchange details
Exchange full details with the other driver: names, ID/ARC numbers, insurance providers, and vehicle registration numbers.
Wait for the assessor
Stay at the scene. Cyprus insurers dispatch their own official assessor to record the incident and arrange authorised towing if required.
If you are refused insurance (Κοινοπραξία)
Cyprus insurers aggressively protect their private risk portfolios. If an application is declined by three companies — due to the vehicle's high performance or the driver's specific risk profile — Cyprus law mandates coverage through the government pool (Κοινοπραξία). However, this provides only basic Third-Party liability. We facilitate specialist underwriting to secure comprehensive protection before you ever face this scenario.
